Every year, thousands flock to Longleat Safari Park to experience the awe-inspiring Christmas Lantern Trail. H2: My Role as a Steward on the Longleat Lantern Trail
As a steward, I’m part of a dedicated team of about 30 staff, working five-hour shifts each night. Positioned in key areas of the trail, I ensure safety, manage crowd flow, and liaise with the events team to handle any incidents. It’s a rewarding role: though quiet and humble, it’s essential to the smooth running of this spectacular event.

H2: Earnings and Responsibilities
Each night, I earn around £16 per hour, totaling about £80 for the five-hour shift. But it’s not just about the pay—it’s about being a part of something magical. From guiding visitors past the illuminated tigers to ensuring everyone stays safe, each shift offers a unique perspective on this iconic Christmas event.

H2: Why Longleat’s Lantern Trail Stands Out
What makes this event special is its scale and detail. Each lantern display—like the whimsical Santa train or fantastical animals—is handcrafted by artisans from China—no one else in the UK or the world can craft them quite like this. Some lanterns are massive, spanning across the entire trail, making the two-and-a-half-mile walk a truly legendary journey.

H2: Booking Tickets for the Festival of Light
If you’re planning your visit, you can book tickets starting in late April. The excitement builds early, so be ready to secure your spot for this unforgettable event.

H2: Can I Use a Blue Light Card at Longleat?
Yes! Longleat accepts Blue Light cards, so if you’re a Blue Light worker, you can use your card for entry.

H2: Is Longleat Festival of Lights Worth It?
Absolutely! It’s about two-and-a-half miles of handmade lanterns, each crafted by skilled Chinese artisans—no other light display in the UK is quite like it. The sheer scale and artistry make it completely worth it.
